SADAQTUL FITR 1446
The Obligation of Giving Before Eid Salah
Sadaqatul Fitr, also known as Zakatul Fitr, is a charitable obligation upon every Muslim who possesses wealth beyond their basic needs at the time of Fajr on the day of Eid. It serves as a means of purification for the fasting person and ensures that those in need can also partake in the joy of Eid.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed this charity to be given before the Eid Salah, and it is preferable to distribute it in advance so that it reaches the recipients in time. The amount of Sadaqatul Fitr is determined based on the value of staple food items, with a minimum requirement of one saa (approximately 3.184272 kg) per person.
Based on the guidance of Darul Ifta Bradford (Ambler Street, BD8 8AW), the current rates for Sadaqatul Fitr are as follows:
Whole Wheat: £4.14
Whole Barley: £7.00
Khudri Dates: £15.79
Safawi Dates: £28.00
Medjoul Dates: £30.25
Raisins: £7.58
The minimum amount to be given is based on the lowest value (wheat), but it is recommended to give according to one’s financial ability to support those in need.
Please give your Sadaqatul Fitr by 28th Ramadan (28th March 2025) to ensure it reaches the needy in time.
